A lot of blogs simply fail to match up and appear unprofessional and badly written. Here’s a list of some simple tips for anybody involved in the web design and blog service industry however much they are involved. The tips are really just a matter of common sense, but surprisingly not everybody can recognise it!
Keep your paragraphs short. Most blog readers and internet users simply don’t bother reading huge chunks of text. Keep your paragraphs to two to three sentences each. Use bold format, headings, sub headings and bullet points to direct attention to the salient points.
Have a snappy opening. The gist of the article should be outlined in the first couple of sentences. This will give the readers a chance to make up their minds whether they are going to read the rest of the article. The headline and the opening paragraph are the most important in the whole piece.
Use the best quality images. Good images will definitely attract readers as long as they are relevant to the topic. If chosen correctly, images will be able to provide a picture much more easily than reams of text. While too many images can be distracting and off-putting they can be useful to break up longer articles. Keep your images to a consistent size and style.
Be format consistent. Don’t use too many different font types, sizes and colours. This is the opposite of the first tip. While nobody wants to read huge chunks of the same looking text, too many different styles can be confusing and irritating if unnecessary.
Don’t rush your blog post. Proof read your blog post several times – better still, let somebody else with good language skills proof read it, as one person can often miss the same simple errors time and again.Spend that extra quarter of an hour giving it a bit more zest with relevant links and images throughout.
Offer something of value to your readers. Giving something away with your blog post can be more than just a gimmick. Giveaways or competitions are an investment rather than a loss. Make sure that the things you are giving away actually have some value and are not meaningless.
Exchange blogs. One way to get your blog post read as widely as possible is to do a blog exchange – ask whether your reader wants to do an exchange if he or she is in the same blog niche as yourself.
Courtesy repays itself a hundred times over. Most people resent it when they have sent emails or written comments and these are not responded to. So make sure you do respond to emails and comments about your own blog post. Make sure other bloggers’ links are inserted in your own blog posts just as you would like to be done for your own.
A little bit more can be a gain. Providing just a bit more than most readers expect will please just about everybody – providing the extra was worth it, of course!
